TheIdaho Museum of Natural History came into being in 1934 through the action of a group of faculty at the former Southern Branch of the University of Idaho in Pocatello. The wildlife, archaeology and peoples of the area led them to believe that the area was ripe for an institution of this kind.

The branch campus of sixty-two years ago has become Idaho State University. The Museum has evolved with its parent institution, and was named the state’s official museum of natural history through an Act of the Idaho State Legislature in 1986.

Today, the Museum offers nearly 10,000 square feet of gallery space, with areas dedicated to various aspects of our state’s natural history, 1ncluding prehistoric mammals, dinosaurs, geologyand indigenous peoples.

The Museum offers something for everyone. And beginning in 2005, we’ll be offering four new exhibits each year. Visit today and get a glimpse of Idaho’s long and incredible past. We’re located on South 5th Avenue and Dillon Street on the campus of Idaho State University, in Pocatello.
