Founded in 1889, the University of Idaho (UI) is Idaho’s public, doctoral-research extensive land-grant institution. The UI offers 146 degree programs, from agribusiness to zoology, including bachelor's, master's, doctoral and specialists degrees to approximately 13,000 students from all states and 78 foreign countries.

The UI serves as the headquarters for the ISGC, housing the Director and main ISGC staff. One associate director resides in the College of Engineering and another in the College of Education, allowing for a unique collaboration between the Colleges not found in any of the other 51 space grants in the nation. The UI conducts numerous research projects, including research under the NASA Idaho EPSCoR program, coordinates the North/Central Idaho K-12 minigrant program, supports numerous students in the ISGC Scholarship and Fellowship Program and students that intern with NASA, and facilitates numerous K-12 programs, such as student workshops, teacher workshops, GLOBE, etc. It is also home to the Idaho NASA Educator Resource Center, Idaho’s Space Science Broker/Facilitator, and to the Institute of Mathematics, Interactive Technologies and Science, which facilitates numerous NASA and science education programs.
